Round 13 - Olinda v Yarra Junction
Today we played hosts to the winless Yarra Junction. The most pleasing thing from todays game was the boys discipline to remain focussed on the footy, and not get sucked in by the opposition. Well done boys.
With our season almost over it was time to throw a few things around, so Deano found himslef at Centre half forward. Kicking his first goal for the year. Mick also had a go at full forward and got a few himslef. We managed to control the match for most of the day with the emphasis on attacking the ball starting to show.
JD have us first use around the ground and again worked well with Jake the Snake and Jimmy (2 goals). Xavier (2 goals) was lively up forward kicking a couple of nice goals. Down back the boys didn't have a real busy day but Dan still managed to get himslef into the action winning plenty of contested ball and running of half back.
Comfortable winners in the end. Cassidy played his best game of the year. Jackson also had another courageous game - playing with a broken hand, which is now in plaster.
Well Done to Dan and Jeremy for playing their 50th Game.

Round 12 - Olinda v Gembrook
Today was a real crunch game for the boys with the thought of finals fading. After the guys got over the size of a few of the Gembook players we started to hold our own.
By the end of the first we were lucky to be only a goal down with Gembrook missing a few easy shots. After the first the game turned into a really good contest. Deano & Joshy were again in good form down back, Tommy and Jack K were giving us plenty of movement up forward.
Again we struggled to kick goals, but we were able to win enough of the ball in the middle with Jake and Jack giving us some drive into the forward line.
Jimmy tried hard all day to finish with a couple of goals. Mick kicked one late in the last to give us some hope, but in the end the Brookers were able to run out winners.

Round 10 - Olinda v Sth Belgrave
Another cold and wet day in Olinda, today gave the boys a chance to bounce back from last weeks loss. From the first bounce it was obvious everyone had come to play contested footy.
Today was a real hard slog with the game anyones until the final siren, luckily we found ourselves 6 points up after a late goal from Big Ben. Jakey (kicking our only other major) played well all day for us. A great team effort today boys keep it up.
Milestone games this week were Limo, Mark and Deano 50 games - well done!

Round 11 - Olinda v Emerald
Today we were up against second placed Emerald. The boys were really switched on before the game and it showed in the first quarter with four goals to one.
Plenty of clearance work from JD & Jakey. Big Ben slotted the first one, then Jakey continued his good form kicking two. Jimmy was looking dangerous kicking the other. A late goal to Emerald steadied their ship.
In the second and third Emerald showed us why their up near the top of the ladder, by getting their running game going adding 3 goals. Our boys were having a real go, unfortunately we were unable to bother the scores, with the game being played in our back half.
Lots of positives with Limo having a go on the wing. Deano was again going hard at the ball down back and Eady was playing his best game for the year, with every kick hitting its target and attacking the footy.
Great stuff in the last quarter, we went in with a one point buffer which was quickly gone when Emeral kicked the first. Our boys to their credit never gave it away. With a couple of minutes to go Benny ran onto a loose ball and kicked a classy running goal and put us back in front. Emerald were good enough again to kick a quick goal just before the siren to run out 5 point winners. A great effort from our boys today, unfortunately we didn't get the win but lots to build on for the next week.
Don't forget training is at Kalorama Oval this week.

Round 9 - Olinda v Upwey Tecoma
Todays game saw us up against the highest scoring team in the competition, so we weren't too upset with the wet conditions. Unfortunately Upweys' bigger bodies and greater endeavour saw us looking flat in the first. JD was working hard again giving his all around the ground, until he counldn't run anymore.
Our guys were happy to be second to the ball so it was no wonder Upwey had plenty of scoring opportunities throughout most of the game.
Deano filled in at full back for the day and did all that was asked of him. Josh and Jackson both battled away down back, not afraid of going to ground to get the ball.
In the end Upwey were convincing winners 7-16-58 - 1-3-9. With the only goal going to Josh.
Lots of improvement is needed boys, everyone knows we are better than we displayed today.

Round 8 - Olinda v Healsville
Another very even contest today out at Healsville with both teams having plenty of opportunities. Unfortunately for our boys as the score shows 5.0.30 to 2.3.15 we couldn't get the score on the board. Lots of good signs of improvement with the emphasis on sheparding and talking starting to show.
Up forward Tom snapped a nice goal on the run. Big Ben worked hard without any luck, and once again Jimmy ran all day kicking our other major. Everyone enjoy our week off, and get over any niggles. Overall its been a fantastic start to the season.
Don't forget we are still training on Wednesday!

Round 7 - Olinda v Wandin
Windy Conditions welcomed us at home today after two good wins on the road. As the boys were to learn football is a lot harder when there is a howling gale in your face. In the first the boys had control of the game with Jimmy reading the tap to give us plenty of opportunites up forward. Jezza looked lively and his hard work was rewarded with a great snap & goal. Unfortunately we didn't make the most of our chances with our scores at quarter time 1-6.
In the second and third our guys again had their fair share of the ball. Dan was again reading the play well off half back. Josh seems to get better every week and was again throwing himself in. Deano attacked the ball from full back to give us a healthy lead at the last change (with the scores 2.8 to 1.1).
Full credit must go to Wandin in the last, they were harder, faster and alot more determined. Three last quarter goals to no score left the final scores 4-2 to 2-8. After a great month we learnt a valuable lesson today, it's not over boys until the final siren sounds. Heads up and make sure we get to training Wednesday.
Congratulations to Tommy, Jake & Loui for playing their 50th game today - what a great milestone boys. Well Done

Round 6 - Olinda v Woori Yallock
Round 6 - Olinda v Woori Yallock
With Woori Yallock sitting second and Olinda 4th the boys had really set themselves for big day down at Woori. The first qrt saw both teams playing some great running football, moving the ball up and down the ground. Big Ben again opened up the scoring to finish the qrt at one goal a piece.
The much anticipated return of Puffa in the second did not dissapoint. Puffa continually found himself in the right spots feeding off the ball to set up two more majors. In the third and fourth it was again the backline which held strong. Dan, Jezza and Connor provided plenty of drive. Jimmy and Jake ran their guys out all day to again set up plenty of scoring oppotunities, but we couldn't put them away on the scoreboard. Woori had plenty of the ball in the last to finish the game with a flurry of behinds.
A fantastic team game from Benny in the middle provided us with a real one on one battle all day with his opponent. A very even contest all day from both teams all day.

Round 5 - Olinda v Wesburn
Perfect conditions welcomed us down the highway in Wesburn today. Both sides looked evenly matched in the first half. With the ball rebounding from backline to backline with Triston, Jacko and Mick running the ball out well, linking up with JD and Benny through the middle. The scores were 1.5 to 1.3 at half time, not great accuracy from both sides. In the third the boys clicked into gear with Dan finding some form and Connor and Jake bringing the ball back through the corridor to set up 3 goals for the quarter. We added 3 more goals in the last with Mick and Jimmy working well together to run out comfortable winners. Another great team effort with everyone doing their bit. Well done boys. Lets make sure we keep it going by getting to training Wednesday.
Final Scores: 7-8-50 to 2-4-16.

Round 4 - Olinda v Seville
Round 4 Olinda v Seville
Finally back home after two weeks on the road. With 2 wins in a row the boys were full of confidence coming into the match against the winless Seville. Dazza gave the boys a rev and told them the pitfuls of TOO much confidence before the game, unfortunately it did not sink in with Seville getting early control of the footy. Great first half efforts from Connor, Deano, Josh and Loui kept us in the game. After half time the boys found their mojo and piled on the goals, Benny, Jake, Jimmy and JD ran amuck through the middle and half forward. Big Ben again proved what happens when we get the ball in nice and fast bagging another 2 goals for the day.
Mick enjoyed the freedom of the last quarter in the ruck winning every tap. Dan overcame an early injury to have an impact in the last quarter - well done Dan. Mark finished off a great day with a goal to end up comfortable winners. Best Games for the year from Mick, Connor and Josh which gave everyone plenty of inspiration for next week. Thanks guys.
